Zodiac sign Leo is the fun-loving, creative sign. Get to know more about this sign - whatever connections you may have to Leo people in your life - and this can be of help in your relationships and any new connections with Lions. And then there’s Leo Season, which happens every year and brings Leo energy to all of us at once.

For this article, the topic of focus is Leo in many different ways to get you fully up to speed with this sign:

Leo Facts: Heartfelt Energy

Leo is the fifth sign in the Zodiac (out of 12 signs total), and Leo comes after Cancer. Cancer is all about emotions, nurturing, and desires comfort and support, so it's more serious, and as a water and cardinal sign, it's driven emotionally. Leo moves out of serious emotions and helps us take action in happier ways. If you're a Leo Sun, you tend to focus on your heart, and your heart energy can be strong and guide you throughout your life.

The Zodiac signs are broken down by element and quality, and Leo is of the fire element (along with Aries and Sagittarius), and the fire signs are active, enthusiastic, and positive.

Leo is of the fixed quality (along with Taurus, Scorpio, and Aquarius), and the fixed signs are the stable ones of the Zodiac. They solidify, center, and ground the activity following active cardinal signs, and maintain what has begun.

So, with Leo being a fire sign and a fixed sign, it can take action creatively and with what connects to its heart, and stick with it. A Leo Sun, Moon, or Rising can have this as a core part of their personality, but everyone has this wherever you have Leo in your natal chart (also called your birth chart, this is a snapshot of the location in the Zodiac of all bodies when you were born).

Leo naturally connects with the 5th house, the house of love and creativity. Leo is ruled by the bright Sun, and shines brightly and loudly. Leo can be more sensitive to the movement of the transit (moving) Sun and the Zodiac Seasons.

Leo Season: A Time for Fun and Play

During Leo Season (which is when the transit Sun tours Leo), this energy plays out broadly for all of us. We tend to be more connected to our hearts, what brings us joy, love, romance, and play.

Leo Season occurs roughly mid-July to mid-August every year (the Sun has steady movement through the Zodiac), and this time of year is great for good times for all after the emotionally-serious Cancer Season.

We can focus on opportunities to enjoy ourselves, and to remind ourselves of how to have fun. It's a great time of the year for vacations, and getaways, and we can make more time for our hobbies, pick up new ones or pick back up old ones, and remember what makes us laugh and be cheerful.

Leo Season is also excellent for creative projects and ventures thanks to our strong heartfelt energy. We're inspired to take action in creative ways, and we might get attention for some of it too. We can express ourselves creatively, and allow ourselves to shine brightly through what we create.

With Leo being the sign of love, Leo Season can be a time for romance and dating, reigniting sparks in existing relationships, or reconnecting with old loves. We want to enjoy every part of life, and we want to love everything we do, and be with the people we love most.

We can strongly crave being able to showcase who we are during Leo Season. We're so connected to our hearts that we don't want to shove it away, never to be seen again; and we're so inspired, we want to branch out and showcase what we're capable of to the world proudly and loudly.

Leo Personality Traits:

The Leo personality is one that is rooted in its heart. It prioritizes fun, love, joy, and play, and doesn't want to deal with anything boring, mundane, or serious. Leo wants to have fun, and wants to feel a heartfelt connection with everything it does.

This is most seen in a Leo Sun, Moon, or Rising, but if the Sun, Moon, or Rising are conjunct (aligned with) another planet, it might not be obvious as the other planet takes over (like say, Saturn for example, which would make you seem more disciplined, mature, and quiet - Capricorn-like, ruled by Saturn).

If you have other natal bodies in Leo, whatever they rule can express itself via Leo (so it’s more about creativity, joy, and heartfelt expression). If you have multiple planets in Leo, then you can come across as more Leo-like (even if your Sun or Moon isn’t), especially with a stellium (which would be 3+ planets together in Leo).

Even if you have no planets in Leo in your natal chart, you still have a Leo house. In astrology, there are 12 houses, each ruling different parts of your life, and the Leo house is where you shine brightly and showcase your heart.

Leo loves love, and wants to stick to what it loves most. It can be very loyal to people and relationships, and doesn't like to separate. It can also be very loyal to places, and may not like moving; to hobbies, and may stick with the same hobbies all its life; and to things, and may be sentimental about silly objects.

Someone with strong Leo energy can be generous, wanting to share its good feelings with everyone else, and make everyone feel as good as it does. Leo is the jokester, the actor, theatrical and can put on a good show to make everyone laugh and put a smile on people's faces.

Leo can be loud and proud, and this can be a challenge if its ego gets too big. Being ego-centric, selfish, and immature can be a problem when Leo energy isn't manifesting well, and it can get caught up in what feels good and ignore responsibilities, which leads to big problems for them and everyone they encounter.

At the end of the day, Leo is basically a child - a baby child, then a child-child, then a teenage-child, then an adult-child. Its inner child remains strong all its life, and taking care of its inner child is imperative to making Leo secure and stable. The Leo inner child needs attention to the adult Leo can be free to navigate the world without looking for external fillers to plug up the inner void.

Leo seeks attention because it needs praise and adoration. This helps Leo to feel good about itself, and to honor its bright light within. Some Leos need to learn how to give themselves the praise they need and not rely on others for it as much.

What about when the transit planets are in Leo?

As already said, Leo Season occurs when the transit Sun is in Leo, and this impacts all of us as the transit Sun shines a light. That light shines on Leo energy, and makes us all more creative, inspired, and heart-centric.

The other transit planets touring Leo can also bring out Leo energy. Mercury is the planet of the mind, so Mercury in Leo brings attention to creative ideas and projects. With Venus ruling relationships, Venus in Leo makes us more generous, loving, romantic, and affectionate.

With Mars being the planet of energy, Mars in Leo inspires us creatively and when we're connected to our hearts. Ceres, a dwarf planet ruling nourishment and support, makes getting support for creative ventures and nurturing our hearts more important while in Leo. Jupiter in Leo expands on creativity, gives us more attention for creative pursuits, and expands on our heartfelt energy. Jupiter moves to Leo on June 30 2026, so we'll be under this energy soon.

As the planetary teacher, Saturn forces us to learn lessons, and this is tied to the sign it’s touring. Saturn in Leo means we have to work on issues blocking us from showcasing our inner lights, from utilizing our creative energy, and from connecting to our hearts. Saturn will be in Leo again starting in 2034 (and last time was 2005 - 2007).

Transit Uranus in Leo can bring sudden inspiration creatively, and we can make great strides quickly with creative pursuits. We can merge the unconventional with the conventional, and have an easier time showcasing our unique talents. Uranus will move into Leo in 2039.

Transit Chiron, the wounded healer, will come to Leo in 2041, and this provides a great opportunity for healing our hearts, and tackling love wounds. We can clear out love baggage and become more comfortable with what we love most. This can help us showcase creativity.

Neptune is in Leo starting in 2078, and we can take a more spiritual approach to love and romance, and can be more creative with spiritual ventures. Our intuition can be strong when we're connected to our hearts, and we can enjoy tapping into our spiritual selves more often.

Transit Pluto doesn’t come to Leo until 2183, so over 150 more years (was last in Leo 1937 - 1958), and this triggers transformations (Pluto) of the heart (Leo). We can be more passionate and powerful creatively and when we're using our heartfelt energy.

For intermediate or advanced students, these planets will have an impact for you in the areas of life ruled by the house the Leo planets will tour, so you can focus on those areas of life with the energy of the transit planet in Leo.
